Naseem the Gem

Naseem is no more in the usual sense. She shall however continue to live in the hearts and minds of all those who came in contact with her.She was a lively vibrant person who radiated happiness and joy all around.A gem of a person ,i knew her all along her life .We spent our childhood ,our adolescense and early years of our adulthood together till the time i married her younger sister and she was married to a cousin who lived in what is known as"Azad kashmir".We kashmiris being a miserable people have to be a divided people.Them there, we here ,they theirs ,we theirs, across the line of"control" who controls what, i never understood. Our contact with Naseem was now limitted to an occasional letter duly censored in the national interest on both sides of the "control"or a greeting card on a birth day.Contact via telephone was forbidden then and is forbidden now.She did come once or twice since 1978 the year of her marriage, her last visit being in1997.We, that is me my wife and my son were the last among the family to have visited her and that was in 2000 ,the occasion being the marriage of her first daughterUzma. I found Naseem in a new avtar .She had matured in to a gem of a person extremely confident and fully in control of her life. She exhuded a brilliance, an aura of vitality ,a hallo around her being,a crystal clear transparency within and an innocence without. She was happy in the real sense, basking in the warmth of love that Niaz, her husband showered ,love that her lovely children offered.Everything seemed to be so complete and so perfect as to be unreal and therefore not everlasting. Now i know it was not unreal but yes it was not everlasting.Naseem laid down her life, while saving children of the school where she worked at Muzaffarabad on 8th Oct2005.SHE EXELLED IN HER DEATH THE WAY SHE EXELLED INHER LIFE.

lizard -grasshoper-car

i was driving at 70km hr and irealised that she was crossing the road just in front of me .her run was desperate ..i tried my full force on the accelarator and only managed aslowdown but not before hearing the dammed sound from under my right fore wheel.she was crushed out of existence as if she did not exist ever therebefore. and the killer wasnt the car......a green grasshopper was merrily hanging on to the windshield wiper .....enjoying a free car ride...and perhaps oblivious to the drama that had unfolded in that fraction of a fleeting second.......

the me

blogging and steam

a friend called and saw my new blog,he whistled for some time then said ;i was trying to let off my steam, the way u try to let off yours through poetry, sketches and general writting;well he had his point and he was entitled to let off his steam but why in my room?that is precisely my point .he said ;what right do u have to let off ur steam in this way ,steam engines r a thing of past otherwise we could dock u in a railway yard;on this he remembered that he had to catch a train.he rushed out and train came to rescue my steam.

Echo-2-5

2) you are somewhere around i know but what is keeping you miles away through my eyes you can reach my heart in case you do not find your way ----------------- 3) what was destined and what i did compare my Lord;ihumbly say any discrepency if you find put it on me as you may;--------------------- 4) spring or autumn, nothing matters be it sun or be it snow send it away i am at peace in the recesses of my self be it friend or be it foe send it away------------- 5) i saw water up in flames i saw a river going upstream i saw foxes riding a lion will you interpret my little dream-------------

Echo -4 line poems

Talking to friends and sharing grief \unburdens the chest and lightens the soul\i have none with whom to confer\i keep on talking to myself alone.

arriving

i have at last arrived on the ninth cloud called web.my journey took a long while as i kept myself busy in composing poetry which critics hailed and friends criticised so that a balance is struck and I do not get carried away. My only claim to greatness is my ability to join alphabets in to words. I am basicaly a juggler who plays with words instead of rings and hats. But like a juggler I also draw a pigeon from empty words as the juggler drawing pigeons from empty hats. I too make rings of sentences and like the juggler put them on fire and eat that fire to turn my self into blazing brimstone.
The first work in the juggler's pitara was a book of translation where in I took liberties with artistic brilliance of my father late Nazki reflected in his Kashmiri Quartrains (Rubayat). The translations into english were published under the title Echo and contrary to all my fears and rather expectations was hailed universaly as a significant contribution.
In my next blog I shall give you some translations from the book.
